Pietra Barrasso – International Master of Art

Pietra Barrasso studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Naples, where she chose the painting department. She later deepened her training with a specialization in advertising graphics and photography. During her artistic journey, she met the master Antonio Corpora, becoming his student and inheriting part of his sensitivity toward matter and colour.

She took part in the 54th Venice Biennale under the curatorship of Vittorio Sgarbi, strengthening her presence on the international art scene.

By direct invitation, she joined MetaFormismo©, a movement in which she has participated consistently across numerous editions of the itinerant exhibition L’Arte Contemporanea nelle Antiche Dimore©. She also took part in L’Arte e il Tempo©, an official event of Expo Milano 2015, both conceived and directed by Prof. Giulia Sillato.

Pietra Barrasso presents "Gateway of Light" in Gubbio

From October 3 to November 4, 2026, Pietra Barrasso will take part in the prestigious CARI MAESTRI exhibition in Gubbio, curated by Prof. Giammarco Puntelli. The artist will present Porta di Luce, a painting that explores luminosity as a spiritual and regenerative principle. In the work, light becomes living matter: it crosses the color, vibrates through shades of gold, green, and blue, and ultimately transforms into a symbol of rebirth and transcendence. The painting invites the viewer to cross an inner threshold, where pictorial language becomes an experience of contemplation and hope.

The exhibition unfolds across three symbolic venues in the city — Santa Maria Nuova Church, Taverna dei Capitani Gallery at Palazzo dei Consoli, and the Diocesan Museum — creating an immersive journey through art, history, and spirituality. Porta di Luce reaffirms the luminous poetics that define Pietra Barrasso’s artistic research.

Pietra Barrasso

Pietra Barrasso, Master of Contemporary Art and Light, is an artist recognized for her exploration of light, matter, and spiritual energy. Her poetics transforms inner experience into a universal visual language, where color, gesture, and vibration become instruments of revelation.

Master of Contemporary Art and Light, Pietra Barrasso is an artist who has always engaged in dialogue with light, matter, and spiritual energy. Her research stems from a profound desire to translate inner experience into visual form, making painting a universal, emotional, and spiritual language. Dubbed by critics as a "Master of Light," light is the beating heart of her poetics. It is not merely a chromatic element, but a sign of transcendence, a living presence that crosses the canvas and invites a gaze beyond the visible. The light she paints is memory, emotion, healing: it becomes the voice of the soul, a space for rebirth.

In her works, matter is alive and conscious; she works it through layering, incisions, and vibrations that transform the surface into an expressive territory. She uses color as a spiritual vehicle, allowing every pictorial gesture to be a trace of feeling, silence, and creative energy.

Her artistic path is, above all, a spiritual journey. Each work originates from deep listening, an inner urgency, an invisible connection with that which transcends us. She believes in an art that is not limited to being looked at, but that touches, embraces, and elevates.

She shares this journey: made of light and shadow, of color and contemplation, of energy that becomes form. A journey that continues, canvas after canvas, in an open dialogue with those who pause to observe.

She was invited to the 54th Venice Biennale of Art by Vittorio Sgarbi. By direct invitation, she joined MetaFormismo© and took part in numerous exhibitions of the traveling event L’Arte Contemporanea nelle Antiche Dimore©, as well as L’Arte e il Tempo©, an official event of Expo Milano 2015, both conceived and curated by Prof. Giulia Sillato.

In various exhibitions, her works have been displayed alongside those of Andy Warhol, Scatizzi, Sassu, Schifano, Kostabi, Lodola, Borghi, Kanewsky, and the Aligi Sassu Foundation sponsored her in Brianza.

Throughout her career she has received numerous awards, including:

  • International Art Award with bronze medal from the Chamber of Deputies (2012)
  • Palm Art Award (2012)
  • Medal of the President of the Senate of the Italian Republic (2017)

Commissioned by the Campania Region, she created a series of works donated to all the Presidencies of the Italian Regions on the occasion of the national meeting at the Royal Palace of Naples.

Today, her works form part of the artistic heritage of the Holy See, the Chamber of Deputies, the Carabinieri Corps, the Italian Air Force, as well as Embassies, Regions, Provinces, and numerous Italian Municipalities.
